Zidi Gong —
Ceramics, Jewellery, and Glass Artist
“Under the subjective lens through which humanity views nature, there often lies a conflict and opposition between nature in its essence and our perception of it. ”
(Zidi. G)
Zidi Gong is a contemporary artist working across ceramics, jewellery, and glass, using diverse materials to examine the intricate relationship between human society and the natural world. Drawing inspiration from daily life and the complex dynamics between humanity and nature, her practice reflects a deep interest in the ethical and perceptual boundaries that shape how we view the world around us.
Zidi’s artistic journey began at the School of Jewellery, Birmingham City University, where she graduated in 2023. She further honed her craft with a Master’s degree in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art, completed in 2024. Her multidisciplinary approach bridges these mediums, allowing her to push the boundaries of form and narrative while exploring themes of beauty, brutality, and the human impact on the environment.
Her work invites audiences to confront the contradictions within their perceptions of the natural world. Through her thoughtful selection of materials and diverse creative techniques, Zidi aims to spark a dialogue on humanity’s role in shaping the environment and our often anthropocentric views.
With a foundation in jewellery and metals, Zidi’s transition into ceramics has opened new avenues for storytelling. Her practice is a testament to the power of materiality, blending craftsmanship with conceptual depth to create layered, thought-provoking pieces. As she continues to expand her work, Zidi remains committed to fostering dialogue between humanity and nature, using art as a medium to reflect on our collective impact and shared responsibilities.
